„Learning through Discovery“

…is the guiding theme of the Life Science Center Berlin (LSC). The general aim of the LSC with its experimental world of ten Discovery Labs is to convey an understanding of science and transmit the excitement of being a scientist. To achieve this objective, a strategic educational concept for the Discovery Labs was developed from July 2008 to September 2009, funded by the Technology Foundation Berlin. Interest in the natural sciences, particularly in issues of life, the body and health shall be encouraged and lifelong learning made possible, so that learning will become a process enabling the participants to experience the theme of human life in all of its facets.

The spectrum of the experiments offered shall reflect current research topics in the life sciences and shall include experiments in genetics, neurobiology, immunology, cardiology, cell biology and drug development.

Building on the experience of the Life Science Learning Lab "Gläsernes Labor" in Berlin the Discovery Labs of the LSC will provide a learning venue outside of the framework of school. This special learning venue shall pursue a concept of learning through discovery and be directed toward a variety of groups. The concept has a hands-on, interdisciplinary and experience-oriented character.

The phenomena of life shall be investigated, discussed and presented using methods aimed at promoting the learning experience and developing the competence of the participants. Experts from the most diverse professions shall lead the various courses.
