Future@Bphil, a future project of the Berlin Philharmonic
"Everyone can make music. Everyone can compose in some fashion. When children learn about sports, they play football or are given a tennis racket. But when we want to get them acquainted with music, we expect them to sit still. That is surely not the right way".

Sir Simon Rattle, Chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic

Frühling

During the period, January to March 2003, the citizens of Buch were able to experience a very special form of culture. Members of the Berlin Philharmonic came to Berlin-Buch as part of the furture project, Future@Bphil, to collarborate with the people of Buch on creative projects.

The high point of this was on March 16 when Verdi’s Four Seasons was performed in the Max Delbrück Communication Center by members of the orchestra as well as Buch pupils and senior citizens. In the weeks beforehand the musicians had visited the schools, hospitals and old people’s homes in Buch to make music with the children and patients and work on projects.

With artists from the Künstlerhof the children produced four sculptures for the Four Seasons. For several weeks the sculptures stood in the foyer of the Berlin Philharmonic and can now be seen in Buch schools. The projects and the concert performance were received with enthusiasm by the people of Buch. The Philharmonic plans to return to Buch in 2004.
