The Buch woods are in the North-East of Berlin in the Barnim nature reserve. They occupy an area of 1,100 hectares, with 600 hectares belonging to Berlin and the remainder to Brandenburg. The timber forest occupies ca. 250 hectares. On the former sewage farm and in the Buch Forest a new leisure area has been constructed. At present, a tenth of the area has been developed. You can obtain detailed information about the redevelopment at

A comprehensive network of paths through the Buch Forest are an invitation for you to take a stroll or get on your bike. The long-distance cycleway Berlin-Usedom passes through Berlin-Buch. The open Buch countryside with its cycle paths are especially attractive to cyclists. Rare birds like the kingfisher and the red-backed shrike and protected plant forms can be seen in the Buch meadows and wetlands.
If you see sculptures by a variety of artists in the woods, these are the results of the International Sculptors’ Symposium "Steine ohne Grenzen" (Stones without Frontiers).
A variety of organizations like the Nature Protection League and Nature Watch offer regular guided rambles through the open countryside. In the Buch Forestry School close by the Forest Rangers’ post, people, especially school children, can learn lots about the wood and its inhabitants.
